I want to connect with managers on ADAM on how maternity leave is handled within your practice—both for regular employees and providers. We are currently making some modifications to our employee handbook and maternity and paternity leave is one important item we want to better define.

*Note---we do not have to follow FMLA regulations due to only having 28 employees.

• How many max number of weeks’ time off do you allow for maternity leave or adoption of a baby?
• Do you have short term disability benefits to help support your staff during this time away from the practice?
• If yes, do you require staff to exhaust all PTO.
• Do you offer paternity leave?

Crazy enough we have 1 employee and 3 providers expecting and delivering in 2023!! (This must qualify for some kind of record ha!).

I appreciate any feedback or insight you are able to provide regarding maternity and/or paternity leave within your practice.

Hi Debbie, our practice is at a size where we have to comply with FMLA. We allow up to 12 weeks leave for adoption/birth of new child. Employees/providers have the option to purchase short-term. Short-term requires a 7 day elimination period that they have to cover. Otherwise, we allow them to retain up to 40 hours in their time off bank.

Hi Debbie,

Our practice provides 4 weeks of half pay for staff members employed 2 years - 4 years and we provide 8 weeks of half pay for those employed longer than 4 years. The staff member is allowed 8 weeks out of the office, and more if deemed needed. Our providers get 3 months of fully paid maternity leave. This applies to both men and women. We are not required to follow FMLA either. Hope this helps.

Colleen
